Legends of Yore

Like, OMG you guys, this is the best game. Legends of Yore is a casual mobile roguelike for Android and iPhone (you can also play it on your computer) that gets it all right.

You start by choosing your class from a rugged manly selection. You can be a warrior, who is able to hit stuff. The angrier he gets, the harder he hits. The archer seems cool, but I haven't played one yet. He can shoot arrows and lay traps it seems. The wizard is appropriately squishy but has the most utility and can do the most damage. Once you reach level 50 you can further specialize your class and become a barbarian, a black mage, a monk etc. depending on what you have been playing at up until that point.

The main thing to point out is that this game has charm coming out of the wazoo. It has beautiful sprite based graphics, funny monster descriptions, and cute response options. (Sure or Nay! for example.) The game world feels gigantic and it is filled to the brim with monster and loot variety. There is a new randomly generated dungeon just around every corner too. These come in a variety of difficulties too, so you can dip your toes in and find one that you believe yourself capable of tackling.

Apparently Notch, of Minecraft fame, really enjoys it too. I looked into this after coming across a creeper in game. It exploded when it got close enough to me, and not only took a sizable chunk off of my life bar, but it also blew up a portion of the environment.

I paid $2.02 for this game, but you can play for free up until level 20. So far I have been having more fun with this two dollar game than I have with games I have spent sixty on.
